Katelyn Christabel is barely three years old according to her Facebook page, and in this rather disturbing video, this toddler is used as a Miracle Healer (Faith Healer) who can drive out an evil spirit. The child even has more than a lakh followers on her own Facebook page and has her own YouTube Channel with thousands of views, all of which projects her as someone who has extraordinary psychic God-like powers.
She doesn’t fully comprehend it yet, but at the behest of Reverend Paul Dawson, Kateyln screams things like “I release the power” and raises her palm at disciples who enter a trance, start convulsing, and awake claiming to be healed of their indisposition. Paul Dawson runs a faith healing centre in Arumbakkam in Chennai.
Faith healing is the ritualistic practice of prayer and gestures (such as laying on of hands) that are claimed to elicit divine intervention in spiritual and physical healing, especially the Christian practice. Believers assert that the healing of disease and disability can be brought about by religious faith through prayer and/or other rituals that, according to adherents, stimulate a divine presence and power.
Praying for the healing of a sick person is well known and are widely accepted as a spiritual practice. However, many a conmen have been known to stage manage and manipulate such faith healing acts to fool gullible people and to exploit their desperations, in order to suck them into their fold and eventually empty their wallets.
It’d be disturbing enough if Paul Dawson was the person doing this. But to enlist a child who has no working knowledge of how this game is being played, is undoubtedly a kind of abuse. It raises serious concern for this young child.
It is very unfortunate that even in this day and age, even after so much scientific progress and spread of education, people continue to be fooled so easily by such fraud.
