  • Tamannah: Fact that Himmatwala didn’t do well, taught me a lot
    Tamannah Bhatia
Tamannaah (Bhatia)’s first outing in Bollywood might not have yielded the most desirable result, but she is surely looking forward to her next release Humshakals.Tamannaah, who was in Ahmedabad recently to promote the film, looked at ease even though by her own admission she is exploring a “new space” as far as her career is concerned. As she settles down for a chat, she opens up about managing “three different film industries at the same time,” being a part of a multi-starrer and more. Excerpts:Your Bollywood debut didn’t do too well at the BO. Are you feeling any kind of pressure this time round?
There is no pressure as such. The very fact that Himmatwala didn’t do well, taught me a lot. When you start with a flop or a low in you career, you are prepared for the worst. And since I have never done an outright comedy, I am in a completely new space which is exciting for me. With films like these, you need to capture the vibe of the film and then just go along with it. This is something I have never done before, so I am looking forward to it.You have been based in the southern film industry for quite some time now. But now Bollywood seems to be on your cards.
I never planned things in a particular way. I just took things the way they came. I was receiving a lot of offers southern films so I went ahead with them. And it turned out to be a good decision. Now I feel it’s the right time to make a comeback into Bollywood.

Isn’t it difficult to juggle between these two industries that are so drastically different?
Right now I am involved with three different industries at the same time. I am doing films in Tamil, Telugu and in Bollywood. These are three different worlds with very different sensibilities. But that’s the fun part. You get to learn a lot since they work in their own way.

In Bollywood, the male leads normally take all the limelight. So what do you reckon of a film which has nine of them?
Films like these are mainly meant for entertainment and when you sign a film like this, you are already aware that this film will not be known for exemplary performances or meaty roles. So you already know what you are getting into. And so did I when I signed Humshakals. I would love to explore myself as an actor with roles that are challenging and give me a chance to stretch myself as an actor, but as of now I am only looking at doing lighter roles.
