Sexist Beep Song lands Anirudh Ravichander, Simbu in trouble
A song sung by Tamil star Silambarasanand composed by Kolaveri Di fame music director Anirudh Ravichander has already mired controversy even before its release. The Beep song, as it is being called, is said to have several Tamil cuss words and has not gone down well with many in the state.
On social media, became an Internet sensation and was the first truly viral video in India. The song was used in the movie 3 directed by Dhanush’s wife Aishwarya who is superstar Rajinikanth’s daughter. Why This Kolaveri Di has spoof and cover versions in various languages.
many have condemned the song for its objectionable use of cuss words which are understandable despite having muted it with a beep sound. case was registered against the duo under section 4 read with 6 of Indecent Representation of Women Act, 509 IPC and 67 of Information Technology Act by Race Course Police, Coimbatore.
In the recent times, there has been a sharp increase in the number of crimes against women. They are being attacked with acid and being killed by spurned lovers, and such songs are adding fuel to the fire,” the petition stated. The petitioners also said that the songs had been written with the sole intention of insulting women.
CPI Ms All India Democratic Women’s Association on Saturday sought a ban on the song, claiming it was “vulgar” in nature and “denigrating” women. Some members of AIDWA, led by local secretary Amuda, submitted a petition to the City Police Commissioner, A Amalraj, and demanded that stringent action be taken against Simbu and Anirudh, police said. Amuda claimed that there were words describing both men and women in a vulgar and colloquial manner and denigrating women.
However, neither Simbu, nor Anirudh have spoken about the issue. We wonder if the Beep Song will ever find a release officially. This must’ve been like a testing ground for Anirudh and Simbu.
