Samsung Galaxy Golden 3 flip phone surface
Samsung is not new to building Android-powered flip phones. This is because it has launched several models in the past including the Galaxy Golden 2, which was launched for a pricey Rs 51,900 in India.
But that was 2013 and for 2015, Samsung seems to preparing a successor, and the images of the same have finally surfaced through TENAA, China’s certification board.
The images show off a smartphone with a flip phone form factor, similar to the Galaxy Golden 2. Interestingly, Samsung has really utilised the design elements from its recent Galaxy S6 edge and Note5 models and this shows.
A glance at the back of the handset and you will notice how similar it is to the camera module onboard the Galaxy S6. More importantly, even the heart-rate monitor looks pretty similar and is positioned in a similar fashion.
Moving to the rest of the construction, Samsung’s designers have taken cues from the Galaxy Note 5’s back with a 3D-curved glass construction along with the lipped chin and familiar looking speaker perforations at the bottom. Even the very Samsung-like gaps in the metal frame are present. Inside, we have a t9-style keypad with a directional controller and the back, home and multi-tasking keys on either side.
Coming down to the specifications of the Galaxy Golden 3 (SM-W2016), the TENAA listing claims that the device has two 3.9 inch Super AMOLED displays sporting a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. Hiding inside is a 64-bit Exynos chipset clocked at 2.1 GHz coupled with 3 GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The handset runs Android 5.1 Lollipop and supports 4G bands.
The SM-W2016 is being called as the Galaxy Golden 3 as the original Galaxy Golden carried the model number SM-W2014 and the Galaxy Golden 2 came with model number SM-W2015. Notably, the Samsung Galaxy Golden launched in India in 2013 priced at Rs. 51,900, after which it got a price cut in 2014.
The Samsung Galaxy Golden 3 is expected to be launched in the Chinese market where flip phones are still in vogue, but similar to the Golden 2, it may make it to India.
