Rest Better for Tired Limbs Than Tri-series Final

0

Rain has allowed India an opportunity to qualify for the finals of the tri-series provided they get past England at Perth where the pitch and conditions suit England a bit more. We can talk about the possibilities and probabilities later but with all focus on the world cup what is important is where does India stand as a team?

Irrespective of India’s performance in the tri-series, if the team fails to qualify for the final, it will not be a bad thing. It will provide the team a much needed rest because whatever one might say, a four-Test series followed by a tri-series in Australia takes a massive toll on the body and mind and it is apparent when you look at some players on the park at the moment.

A rest can work wonders, especially in the modern generation where these boys play a lot of cricket. I support the fact that every tournament has to be played to be won but sometimes certain situations accidentally work well for the team.

A lot of talk is going around about the composition of the team. And first and foremost India need is to give Umesh Yadav and Mohammad Shami a complete break before the first game of the world Cup. They have bowled a lot of overs, and with a complete break and lots of strength work will get them fresh and fit before they play Pakistan in Adelaide. This is very important as their fitness, form and hunger is very crucial for India, because if they don’t bowl well, along with the drop in pace and swing of Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, it could just make life difficult for India.

India will be happy with the recovery of Ravindra Jadeja as he needs to get cricket in these conditions. He hasn’t played cricket at all and his good form at 7 or 8 will be crucial. The reason I say 7 or 8 is because Stuart Binny’s form with the bat is a very positive thing for India and he could be a huge bonus to the side.

What India need to be careful about him is where he bowls, as new ball is not an option for him. If he can bowl well between the 10th and 40th overs, it will be crucial as wickets will have to be taken at that time as the conditions in New Zealand and Australia may not support spinners at that point.
