A gang rape victim’s kin, demanding action against the accused, resorted to violence and arson and blocked the Aligarh-Etah highway by placing her body on the road in Sikandrarau in Hathras district in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday.

The 22-year-old married woman was allegedly gangraped by some youths belonging to her native place in Naurangabad area in Sikandrarau and later set her on fire. The victim with 80 per cent burns died on her way to Aligarh Medical College on Monday.

The police, however, claimed that the woman committed suicide. Four persons were named in the FIR filed at the Sikandrarau police station. Two accused — Vakil and Bhullan — have been arrested while two others are absconding.

IG ( Law and Order ) Amrendra Kumar Sengar told reporters that the woman with burn injuries was brought to the Hathras District Hospital by her mother. Quoting the victim’s mother, the IG said the girl was gangraped in Naurangabad locality of Sikandrarau and she tried to commit suicide by torching herself. She was referred to Aligarh Medical College, but died on her way to hospital, Mr. Sengar said.
