Pre-orders for the much-anticipated Apple iPad Air 2 tablet have begun through e-commerce websites Flipkart and Snapdeal. The tablet, which Apple claims to be 6.1mm thin and just 437 grams, is priced between Rs. 35,900 and Rs. 59,900. The low-end version comes with 9.7 inch screen with retina display, 16GB storage space, Wi-Fi connectivity, 8 MP primary camera and 1.2 MP secondary camera.
The iPad Air 2 (16GB model) with 3G connectivity is priced at Rs. 45,900. The tablet is equipped with A8X, “that delivers substantially better CPU and graphics performance than its predecessor”, according to Apple. The Cupertino-based company also claims that iPad Air 2 is as powerful as many personal computers with a 40% faster CPU and delivers 10-hour battery life.
Tablet sales for Apple, which defined the category with the iPad just four years ago, have fallen for two straight quarters. Investors remain focused on the iPhone, Apple’s main revenue generator, but a prolonged downturn in iPad sales would threaten about 15 per cent of the company’s revenue.
