Prabhu Deva to remake Romeo Juliet
After remaking southern hits such as Pokkiri, Vikramarkudu and Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana in Bollywood, actor-filmmaker Prabhu Deva is now planning to remake Tamil hit Romeo Juliet. Impressed with the film post a recent screening in Chennai, Prabhu had apparently congratulated the director and subsequently discussed the idea of a remake. “Prabhu thoroughly enjoyed the film.
He felt it had lot of things that’d work even in Bollywood when remade. Though he hasn’t made any official announcement yet, something positive can be expected soon. After the debacle of his last two outings, he’s being very careful about the projects he chooses,”
Romeo Juliet features Jayam Ravi and Hansika Motwani in the titular roles and interestingly, both have previously worked together Engeyum Kadhal , which was directed by Prabhudeva himself. Apparently, it was Ravi who convinced Prabhu to watch the film. “Ravi had invited Prabhu for a special screening, as he felt he’d enjoy it. As expected, Prabhu really liked the film and heaped praise on the team,” the source said.
The film’s director Lakshman told that Prabhu watched the film and congratulated everybody, but didn’t really talk about the remake plans. Though Romeo Juliet , which is running in cinemas across Tamil Nadu, opened to scathing reviews but managed to rake in the moolah. It has said to have collected Rs 22 crore in two weeks since its release and has been adjudged a successful venture.
Barring the Hindi remake of Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana, his other remakes such as Wanted and Rowdy Rathore were money-spinning projects.
Reportedly, Prabhudeva also plans to make a film with Tamil superstar Vijay but more information regarding this collaboration is awaited. Meanwhile, the choreographer-turned-director is busy wrapping up his Hindi film Singh Is Bling with Akshay Kumar and Amy Jackson.
