PM Modi extends support to Cuba for greater cooperation

New Delhi,Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday received Cuba Vice-President Miguel Diaz-Canel and expressed support forgreater cooperation , including in the areas of trade and investment, health, biotechnology, renewable energy, sports and human resource development between the two countries.

During their meeting, the Prime Minister recalled the close and multifaceted relations between the two countries that have been developed during the tenure of former Cuba president Fidel Castro and nurtured by the successive generations of leadership.

Prime Minister Modi also expressed his appreciation for the role played by Cuba to support the cause of developing countries, including in international fora. In this context, he appreciated that Cuba had sent teams of doctors to Africa in the wake of the Ebola crisis.

Recalling his meeting with South American leaders during his visit to Brazil in July 2014, the Prime Minister reiterated the importance that India attached to its relations with the Latin American and Caribbean Countries.
