Jammu: In what is possibly the biggest ceasefire violation since the Narendra Modi government took charge, Pakistan troops have targeted 35 Border Security Force (BSF) posts at the International Border in Jammu.
Pakistan Rangers resorted to unprovoked heavy mortar shelling and heavy machine guns fire in Ramgargh, Arnia, RS Pura and Kanachak sectors at the International Border.
The firing started at 10 pm yesterday and is still going on intermittently. The BSF has retaliated.
While there have been no casualties to the BSF, two civilians are said to have been injured in the firing.
In the past two weeks, incidents of ceasefire violation have been reported almost every day – over 70 since the BJP took charge in May.
Defence Minister Arun Jaitley had yesterday said that there have been a series of “provocations” by Pakistani Army and the country’s armed forces are “fully protecting both our territory and people”.
“Whatever response is required are being adequately made by them,” Mr Jaitley said.
Border hostilities have directly impacted the peace process. India suspended talks with Pakistan last week over its envoy’s meetings with Kashmiri separatists and the spike in ceasefire violations.
