Nayantara unique dubbing process

Naanum Rowdy Dhaan features Vijay Sethupathi and Nayantara.

Nayantara is dubbing for the first time for Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, a film that releases today. And for her debut experience, the actor seems to have devised a unique method for help. She’d go into the dubbing studio just like how she’d have gone for the shot, explains Vignesh Shivan, director. For instance, if she was to dub for a ‘crying scene’, she’d go to the dubbing studio armed with glycerine. By actually enacting the scene, she’d ensure that she got the dubbing right.

The heroine — who plays a hearing-impaired girl in the film was the only one conspicuously absent from the press meet of the film. Featuring Vijay Sethupathi in the lead role, the film has music by Anirudh, with most of his songs already turning out to be chartbusters.

That’s perhaps because the young ‘Kolaveri’ composer has a special connection with this project; he was supposed to star in the lead role initially. That didn’t work out and the director went ahead to try out other heroes, including Gautham Karthik, before finally zeroing in on Vijay Sethupathi.

The title, from a popular Vadivelu one-liner, is a reflection of the storyline  of a youngster wanting to become a rowdy. The highlight, according to the director, is that he belongs to a police family. “I come from a police family myself; my mother was an inspector at the Vadapalani Police Station.

After a point, the fascination for the force tends to wane and we look at characters on the other side  rowdies with great interest. I’ve tried telling that story in a comic way,” reveals Vignesh, describing the film an ‘emotional comedy.

Shot in Puducherry and Chennai over 75 days, the film  produced by actor Dhanush also features Parthiban, Anandaraj, Radhika Sarathkumar and RJ Balaji.
