According to the Huffington Post, the Naval Aviation Center commander at the Surabaya air force base Sigit Setiayana said that five planes, three helicopters and 12 navy ships and many warships were a part of the search operation.
He said that the Australian Air Force also sent a plane to search for the missing flight that was en route from Indonesia to Singapore with 162 people on board.
Air Asia flight QZ8501 disappeared over the Java Sea after bad weather was reported in the area but no distress calls were made and no wreckage has yet been sighted.
The search for the missing flight was immediately launched with vessels and aircraft from Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia but nothing was reported to be found before nightfall. (ANI)
