Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s coverage of the second ODI between India and Australia here at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in on Saturday. I am Pramod Ananth, and I will be bringing you all the live updates from the what is expected to be an exciting contest
India lock horns with Australia in the second One-Day International (ODI) at Melbourne. Australia put up an extremely professional performance against England and secured a three-wicket win and also earning a bonus point in the process. Australia dominated most part of the Test series against India earlier and won the four-match series 2-0. They certainly have the psychological advantage going into this game.
Having retired from Tests, captain MS Dhoni is back and he will lead the side in the series and also in the upcoming world cup. India, firstly have to address as to who will open the innings for them. Will it be Shikhar Dhawan-Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan-Ajinkya Rahane or Ajinkya Rahane-Rohit Sharma. Then, their premier fast bowler Ishant Sharma will miss the game due to an injury. This will pave way for wither Dhawal Kulkarni or Mohit Sharma to make an impression, if needed. The bowlers struggled to dismiss the Australian batsmen in the Tests and would hope that theu don’t ave a similar problem going into this game. India must go into the game believing that they can win the match as well as the series.
Australia on the other hand had everything going for them in the first ODI against England. Mitchell Starc and James Faulkner got four and three wickets respectively and David Warner started the series off with a magnificent century. They will want their skipper George Bailey to fire in the game as he is a crucial player in the team’s middle-order. It will be interesting to see if fast-bowler Gurinder Sandhu will get his debut. However, Australia will not want to change their winning combination.
