Ottawa,  An Indian, who was involved in the million dollar nuclear deal struck between India and Canada, wherein Canadian producer Cameco Corporation would provide fuel for Indian reactors, said that the agreement was ‘ path-breaking’ and would have political impact.

“Now India will have access to the largest and best quality uranium in the world. It is a win-win agreement, fair agreement and path breaking one. It will give energy security to India and will have a political impact as well,” he said.

“It was a relatively painless negotiation in just about one and a half years the deal has fructified. Shipments will begin this year but the deal goes into effect instantly. It was after the government to government deal was signed, that the private player Cameco got into the negotiation,” he added.

He further added that the supply would not be restricted to two or three countries anymore.

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, who struck the significant deal with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, earlier in the day, confirmed that Cameco Corporation would be supplying uranium to India for the next five years.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Modi said that the deal was being struck keeping the greater good in mind and added that it would aid the issue of global warming and climate change.
