India World Cup Team – Final List:

MS Dhoni (capt, wk), Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane, Suresh Raina, Virat Kohli, Ambati Rayudu, Ravindra Jadeja, R Ashwin, Akshar Patel, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami, Stuart Binny, Umesh Yadav.

The crucial selection committee meeting to pick the final 15-member Indian squad for the upcoming ICC World Cup, scheduled to be held in Australia and New Zealand next month, got underway in Mumbai on Tuesday.

The marquee event gets underway from February 14, with India to launch the defence of their crown against Pakistan the next day.

The five-member selection committee comprises Sandeep Patil (chairman), Saba Karim, Vikram Rathore, Roger Binny and Rajinder Singh Hans.

Roger Binny, one of the selectors, has finally arrived for the meeting after his flight got delayed.

Robin Uthappa has just put on a splendid knock of 156 for Karnataka against Jammu & Kashmir in the Ranji Trophy. Will he get the nod by the selectors?

Even if the selectors pick Ravindra Jadeja, he is likely to be rested till the first match of the World Cup which is quite a big risk.

The selectors are likey to grapple over injury and fatigue. Bhuvneshwar’s injury also caused a big concern for the selectors. Bhuvi played his first Test of the series today and he doesn’t look fit at all.

The first matter of concern is a shoulder injury to allrounder Ravindra Jadeja, which is showing no signs of recovery. Jadeja has been an integral part of skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s armoury considering the package he brings to the table – left-arm spin, useful lower-order batting and electric fielding.

There are reports that the BCCI may request the ICC to let it include Jadeja’s name on a provisional basis for the Cup, but the logic of fielding an undercooked player in an event of such magnitude involves high risk.

Jadeja faces an uphill battle to recover in time, and may not be match fit even if he does.

In this scenario, there could be a debate about whether 2011 World Cup hero Yuvraj Singh, currently riding a wave of good form and sentiment, deserves a recall.
