New Delhi: Facing flak over the spiralling prices of essential commodities, the Union home ministry has initiated a series of measures including opening of more shops to sell potatoes and onions in government premises and fixing stock limits for wholesalers and retailers. “Instructions are issued to officials of Delhi government to immediately finalize an action plan of procurement of onions between 15 July and 15 September which happens to be the lean period for availability of onions,” home minister Rajnath Singh told reporters after a high level meeting on controlling price rise of essential commodities. The Delhi government will also launch an intensive awareness drive to urge people to buy potatoes and onions from the 300 shops opened at government premises and the mobile vans whose numbers are being increased from 60 to 200.
