The mortal remains of former president APJ Abdul Kalam were being carried to Rameswaram on Wednesday morning for last rites.Dr Kalam will be given a state funeral and the last rites would be held at 11am on Thursday, according to the home ministry.
“State funeral of former president Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam will be held with full military honours on July 30 (Thursday) at 11am at Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu,” a ministry statement said.
The funeral will be held in the former president’s birth place in accordance with the wishes of the family of Kalam.
The former president died after suffering a massive cardiac arrest at the IIM-Shillong on Monday evening. His body was brought to Delhi in a special military flight on Monday and kept at his official residence for people to pay their last respects.
