So, in Zoya Akhtar’s upcoming film, Dil Dhadakne Do, we are about to meet the Mehras (played by Ranveer Singh, Priyanka Chopra, Anil Kapoor and Shefali Shah).
The trailer told us that Mehras are so rich that they can actually give Ambanis an inferiority complex. They are the perfect mix of style and class. Let’s face it, how many families has Forbes listed among the rich Indians, which have members that can compete with Ranveer Singh’s disarming charm, Priyanka Chopra’s effortlessly chic style and Anil Kapoor’s good looks? None.
On top of that, the trailer also told us, that the Mehras are all about sophistication — They throw grand and formal dinner parties in big lavish ballrooms, wear designer labels, go on luxury cruise and gift aeroplane to their son as wedding present.
However, what the trailer didn’t tell us is that despite all their apparent stiffness and show of classiness, the Mehras party like any of us do — with a Punjabi song on which you can bust some swag Bhangra moves and a whole lot of whiskey– and here is the proof:
This new song called ‘Gallan Goodiyaan’ just released and if this makes you feel that the gorgeous and deep voice of Sukhwinder Singh doesn’t go well on Ranveer Singh, we can’t agree more. But what is really curious about this song is that it has managed to make Manoj Pahwa sound like a lovechild of KL Saigal and Honey Singh.
All credits to music composers Shankar, Ehsaan Loy for making the track so much fun and peppy and while there is a moment when Rahul Bose tries to whistle and do some Bhagra which looks like an epic fail, the camaraderie between Farhaan Akhtar, Anil Kapoor and Ranveer Singh as they match step and dance to this number seems completely effortless. Anushka Sharma is missing in this song but Priyanka Chopra seems totally in her element as she busts some moves with Singh. Yashita Sharma’s voice sounds like a perfect match for Chopra.
Lyrics of the song by Javed Akhtar has a lot of colloquial Hindi and Punjabi lines, which are catchy and easy to remember. In fact, although initially Gallan Gooriyaan sounds like any other party song from a Karan Johar film, the rhythm will finally get you if you listen to it a couple of times.
While we never thought we ever have to say this about a Zoya Akhtar film, the set in the video looks tacky and so not like a deck of a luxury cruise, which is weird because reportedly the film has actually been shot on a fancy ship.
Dil Dhadakne Do is all set to release on 5 June, 2015.
